Comprehensive technical support from idea to series production
Technical support at Interwolf goes beyond ordinary production to specification. We get involved in the product development phase, where together with the customer we analyse design requirements, feasibility, material selection and possible risks in series production.
The aim of technical support is to ensure that the screw not only meets its nominal dimensions, but performs stably and repeatably in the customer's actual production environment.
Where we can help
Development and feasibility analysis — from the first drawing to an approved batch. A detailed description of the development process is available on the Development page.
Optimisation for automated assembly — head geometry, choice of drive, tolerances for stable feeding and tightening torque. More in the Typical technical challenges and solutions section below.
Choice of material and mechanical properties — advice on selecting steel, stainless versions and property classes. An overview of materials is available on the Product range page.
Quality, SPC and validation — process control, traceability and support with PPAP documentation throughout the product life cycle. Details are available on the Quality in screw production page.
Typical technical challenges and solutions
Below are typical technical challenges and approaches we encounter in projects for different industries — from automated assembly to long-term OEM supply chains.
Optimisation for automated assembly lines
In projects in the electronics and household appliance industries, stability on highly automated assembly lines is key. Screw geometry directly affects productivity, cycle stability and scrap reduction.
We optimise head roundness, choice of drive and tolerances of critical dimensions, and introduce additional SPC monitoring. The result is more stable torque transmission, fewer line stoppages and repeatable tightening torque.
In the series production of electronic devices, screws with a PZ/slotted combination drive were jamming — minimal tolerance deviations and imperfect head roundness caused unstable feeding on the vibratory feeder and occasional bit slippage (cam-out). The solution was a switch to a TORX drive, optimisation of the head roundness tolerance and the introduction of additional SPC monitoring of the critical dimension. Result: line stoppages eliminated, stable tightening torque and faster cycles.
Development of non-standard screws with tight tolerances
We specialise in non-standard screws to customer specification with tight tolerance requirements (±0.02 mm, depending on the dimension). What matters is not only compliance with the drawing, but long-term process stability.
With our in-house toolshop, wear monitoring and SPC methodology, we ensure repeatable geometry even in batches of tens of millions. This approach reduces the risk of variations that could affect torque, hold or feeding.
Multi-million batches and long-term projects
We produce around 500 million screws a year. An important share of production consists of projects with volumes of tens of millions for European OEM and Tier 1 manufacturers.
In multi-year projects, we ensure stable capacity, batch traceability, management of production changes and alignment with the customer's technical requirements throughout the product's life.
Thread optimisation for the furniture industry
In furniture industry projects, we optimise thread depth, core diameter, point shape and material hardness for a stable hold in chipboard and MDF.
These technical adjustments give us consistent torque, less material cracking and long-term joint stability in series production.
In series furniture assembly, there was uneven tightening torque, occasional material cracking and reduced joint pull-out strength in chipboard. The solution was to adapt the thread depth and profile, optimise the core diameter and improve the point for easier initial entry into the material, together with hardness testing after heat treatment. Result: improved hold, fewer complaints and stable, repeatable series production.
Corrosion resistance and special requirements
For projects where the screw is exposed to moisture, weather or more aggressive environments, we advise on the choice of suitable surface protection (e.g. zinc plating, passivation) where needed, depending on the required level of corrosion resistance and the specifics of the project. Surface coatings and heat treatment are carried out in cooperation with proven external subcontractors, in line with our quality requirements.
Validation, documentation and quality
For more demanding projects, we provide measurement reports, material and batch traceability, hardness testing after heat treatment and support with PPAP documentation where required.
This structure allows our products to be integrated into stable OEM supply chains with high requirements for quality and repeatability.
Long-term partnership
Technical support does not end when series production starts. Throughout the life of the project we monitor process stability and are available for any adjustments, allowing our products to be integrated into stable OEM and Tier 1 supply chains.
